Course content

Our 2-day Becoming a Skilled Lead Internal/External Auditor course will give you the skills and knowledge to conduct an audit of any management system. This auditor training course can be combined with our additional 2-day and 3-day modules that cover Quality, Environmental, and OH&S management system requirements, providing a pathway towards an internationally recognised training qualification.

Timetable

Day 1

Management Systems Auditing – preparation

• What is auditing?
• Roles and responsibilities of a lead auditor and an audit team leader.
• The six principles of auditing from ISO 19011.
• Effective audit planning and timetabling.
• Communication skills, interview techniques, and helpful questioning methods.
• Setting appropriate quality audits, objectives, scope, and criteria.
• Developing audit checklists.

Day 2

Management Systems Auditing – the audit

• Conducting an opening meeting
• Identifying objective evidence and taking relevant notes.
• Reviewing auditing scenarios.
• Writing audit findings, including nonconformities and non-compliances.
• Presenting a closing meeting.
• Compiling a meaningful audit report.

Qualification

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Attainment with 2 Exemplar Global competencies:

• Exemplar Global AU – Management systems auditing.
• Exemplar Global TL – Leading management systems audit teams.

In addition, this lead auditor course has the equivalent of 16 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Assessment

As part of the assessment activities, you will complete a series of workshops throughout the course. A short multiple-choice exam after each module assesses the knowledge and understanding gained throughout the training. You will receive continual assistance and feedback from the trainer and will be given anecdotal examples of real-world audit situations.

No homework or take-home assessment.

• Want to become a 3rd party management systems auditor.
• Are required to conduct supplier audits.

• Wish to consolidate your existing knowledge into a formal qualification

Prior experience in auditing and management systems is not essential.

Study Pathway – Where to from here?

To become a registered third-party or external Management Systems auditor with Exemplar Global, you’ll need the competency units from this course, plus additional units in a specific management systems scheme like Quality Management Systems (QM), Environmental Management Systems (EM), OH&S Management Systems (OH 45001) , Information Security Management Systems (IS), Food Safety Management Systems (FS), and Business Continuity Management Systems (BC). These can be completed during the same week of training or separately. We also offer courses in Risk Management and Psychological Health and Safety at Work.
