Frontline managers play a critical role in workplace health and safety. They allocate work, identify and manage risks, respond to incidents, support workers, and influence the behaviours and decisions that shape workplace culture.

RTP’s Work Health and Safety Frontline Manager Programme helps organisations build the practical WHS capability of managers and supervisors through flexible, targeted training.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, the programme allows you to select the topics most relevant to your organisation and combine them into a learning pathway that reflects your risks, priorities, and workforce needs.

Training built around your organisation

Every organisation has different WHS risks, operational requirements, and capability gaps.

The Frontline Manager Programme is designed as a flexible suite of practical learning modules. Modules can be completed individually or combined to create a tailored programme for your managers and supervisors.

This makes the programme suitable for:

  •        onboarding new managers and supervisors
  •        strengthening the capability of existing leaders
  •        addressing identified WHS knowledge or performance gaps
  •        supporting organisation-wide safety initiatives
  •        providing consistent training across teams, sites, or locations

The module library brings together three key areas of frontline WHS capability.

1. WHS foundations

Build practical understanding of the systems, responsibilities, and processes managers need to apply in their day-to-day role.

Topics include WHS management systems, legal roles and responsibilities, workplace risk, incident investigation, WHS documentation, safe work procedures, and emergency preparedness.

2. Workplace hazards

Develop the knowledge needed to identify and manage common physical and psychosocial workplace risks.

Modules can cover areas including manual tasks, psychological health and safety, occupational violence and aggression, plant and machinery, fatigue, and hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods.

3. Leadership, behaviour, and culture

Help managers understand the influence they have on safety culture and give them practical skills to lead more effectively.

Topics include safety conversations, safety leadership and culture, worker consultation and engagement, contractor and visitor safety, return to work, and psychological health and safety.

Build the right learning pathway

You can select individual modules or work with RTP to combine them into a programme suited to your organisation.

For organisations that are not sure where to begin, we can also recommend learning pathways based on common needs, such as:

  •        Legal and risk foundations

For new managers, onboarding programmes, or teams needing stronger understanding of WHS duties, workplace risk, and safety conversations.

  •        People and culture

For managers who need to strengthen safety leadership, communication, worker engagement, and psychological health and safety.

  •        Hazard management

For operational managers who need practical skills in identifying, assessing, and responding to workplace hazards.

  •        Complete frontline manager

A broader introduction covering core WHS responsibilities, risk management, psychological health and safety, and safety leadership.

These pathways can be used as a starting point or adapted to suit your organisation.

What our students say about our courses

“The virtual classroom coupled with an enthusiastic trainer made the course easy to run through and as good as any face-to-face courses I have ever attended.”

“Honestly thought it was gonna be boring. I was very wrong! Very engaging and informative. Loved all 5 days and will be back for more courses!”

“Let’s be honest – ISO standards aren’t exactly edge-of-your-seat material. But this course proved that with the right coach, even clauses and compliance can be compelling! Packed with real-world examples, well-paced sessions, and just the right amount of workshops, it was surprisingly enjoyable. Highly recommended!”

“It was clearly evident that the lead auditor trainer had significant industry-related experience in auditing. He was able to keep the class fully engaged with personal interaction and reinforce learnings. Getting full copies of the standards was amazing, the catering and the training location in Brisbane was perfect.”

“The trainer’s experience and real-life examples gave great context to the course material. The 5 days allowed the material to be digested in a way that was not overwhelming. I’d definitely recommend the course to others.”
