About the course

This 90-minute eLearn provides a focused update for people who already have a strong working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015. You’ll work through the significant changes, consider their practical implications, and use activities and scenarios to identify how they may apply within your own organisation.

If you hold the Exemplar Global QM Auditing Quality Management Systems qualification aligned to ISO 9001:2015, successful completion of this eLearn can also update your competency to ISO 9001:2026.

To receive the updated competency unit, you will need to provide evidence of your existing Exemplar Global QM qualification.

For more information, please see the Who Should Complete section.

Published in September 2026, ISO 9001:2026 replaces ISO 9001:2015 and builds on its familiar foundations, while introducing some important shifts in how organisations are expected to think about quality.

Quality culture and ethical behaviour are now more explicit. Risks and opportunities are more clearly separated, with greater emphasis on proactively identifying and pursuing opportunities as well as addressing risks. References to documented information have been updated, and Annex A provides additional explanatory guidance to support understanding and interpretation of the requirements..

For quality professionals and auditors, the task is not to relearn ISO 9001. It is to understand where expectations have changed, what those changes mean for an existing Quality Management System (QMS), and where action may be needed during transition.

Want to understand the changes before deciding if this eLearn is right for you? Read our overview of the key changes in ISO 9001:2026 and what they mean for existing Quality Management Systems.

Students completing this eLearn will receive a detailed comparison document highlighting the key changes in the 2026 version.

What is ISO 9001:2026?

ISO 9001:2026 is the revised edition of the international standard for Quality Management Systems.

Rather than fundamentally changing the structure of ISO 9001, the revision builds on the 2015 edition with targeted changes and additional guidance. The existing Clause 4–10 structure, process approach, and Plan-Do-Check-Act framework remain.

What has changed in ISO 9001:2026?

Some of the most significant areas addressed in the revision include:

  • Quality culture and ethical behaviour
  • Clearer separation of risks and opportunities
  • Increased emphasis on actively identifying and pursuing opportunities
  • Awareness of quality culture and ethical behaviour
  • Planning and management of changes
  • Clarifications to selected operational requirements
  • Additional explanatory guidance in Annex A

The course examines each of these areas in more detail and considers what they mean in practice.

Is ISO 9001:2026 very different from ISO 9001:2015?

No. Much of ISO 9001 remains familiar.

The structure of the Standard, its process approach, and the PDCA framework remain in place, and most existing QMS processes will continue to be relevant.

The transition is therefore more about identifying and addressing targeted changes than rebuilding an existing QMS.

I have completed training in ISO 9001:2015. Is this course for me?

Yes. That’s exactly who this eLearn has been designed for.

Rather than repeating ISO 9001 fundamentals you already know, the course concentrates on what’s changed in the 2026 edition and what those changes mean for the application, maintenance, and auditing of a QMS.

I hold the Exemplar Global QM competency. Can this course update it to ISO 9001:2026?

Yes. If you hold the Exemplar Global QM Auditing Quality Management Systems qualification aligned to ISO 9001:2015, successful completion of this eLearn can update your competency to ISO 9001:2026.

You will need to provide evidence of your existing Exemplar Global QM qualification to receive the updated competency unit.

Does my organisation need to completely change its QMS?

No. ISO 9001:2026 does not require organisations to start again.

Existing systems should instead be reviewed against the revised Standard to determine where changes are needed. Some requirements may require relatively straightforward updates, while areas such as quality culture and ethical behaviour may require organisations to consider how expectations are demonstrated and evidenced in practice.

Why does the course focus on quality culture and ethical behaviour?

This is one of the more notable developments in the revision.

ISO 9001:2026 makes quality culture and ethical behaviour more explicit within leadership requirements and extends awareness of these concepts more broadly within the organisation.

Unlike a procedure or record that can simply be updated, culture is demonstrated through behaviours and practices over time. Understanding what the revised Standard expects in this area is therefore particularly important when preparing for transition.

Do I need to know ISO 9001 before taking this course?

Yes. This is a bridging course for people who already understand ISO 9001:2015.

If you don’t yet have a working knowledge of the Standard, we recommend starting with our Quality Management Systems course.

What our students say about our courses

“The virtual classroom coupled with an enthusiastic trainer made the course easy to run through and as good as any face-to-face courses I have ever attended.”

“Honestly thought it was gonna be boring. I was very wrong! Very engaging and informative. Loved all 5 days and will be back for more courses!”

“Let’s be honest – ISO standards aren’t exactly edge-of-your-seat material. But this course proved that with the right coach, even clauses and compliance can be compelling! Packed with real-world examples, well-paced sessions, and just the right amount of workshops, it was surprisingly enjoyable. Highly recommended!”

“It was clearly evident that the lead auditor trainer had significant industry-related experience in auditing. He was able to keep the class fully engaged with personal interaction and reinforce learnings. Getting full copies of the standards was amazing, the catering and the training location in Brisbane was perfect.”

“The trainer’s experience and real-life examples gave great context to the course material. The 5 days allowed the material to be digested in a way that was not overwhelming. I’d definitely recommend the course to others.”
